La Promesa spoiler: Who killed Santos’ mother?

Santos receives sad news in La Promesa: his mother, Ana, has died. Was Ana's death an accident or a murder?

Ricardo returns to La Promesa to support his son during this difficult time. Before long, the former butler, Ricardo, confesses something terrible to Pía: he killed his wife by accident. However, the situation takes a new turn following a conversation between father and son.

A Shocking Death

Ana’s death comes as a complete shock to La Promesa. Santos cannot believe what has happened and decides to withdraw into himself. Despite the attempts of others to offer support, he refuses to open up. Until, eventually, he confides in Pía.

Ricardo returns to La Promesa as soon as he learns what has happened, wanting to support his son. Initially, their relationship is better than it has ever been.

Ricardo’s Confession

Then, Pía finds a flyer in Ricardo’s trousers for a tavern called As de Copas, where Santos’s mother, Ana, used to work. Pía does not hesitate to confront Ricardo directly about her discovery. At first, Ricardo denies having any involvement in Ana’s death.

Pía, however, does not give up. After repeated questioning, Ricardo finally confesses that he killed Ana!

Ricardo explains that he had been arguing with an intoxicated Ana. When she tried to strike him, he attempted to push her away. As a result, Ana stumbled and struck her head, with fatal consequences.

 

The Truth About Ana’s Death

Seeing how devastated Santos is by his mother’s death, Pia decides that the footman deserves to know the truth about what happened. She reveals Ricardo's confession to Santos.

Upon hearing this, Santos suffers an anxiety attack. Everything points to his shock stemming from the belief that his father killed his mother, but that is not the case.

A conversation between father and son reveals the truth.

"Why does Mrs. Adarre think you killed my mother?" Santos asks Ricardo.

Ricardo had no other choice. Pia had discovered the truth, and Ricardo could not let her know that it was actually Santos who killed his mother.

The Matricide

So, Santos killed his own mother!

Santos got into an argument with his mother. The situation escalated, and Ana fell and struck her head.

The footman is in a panic. He cannot let his father take the blame for what he did, he must confess.

Ricardo refuses to allow this. He is determined to protect his son at any cost.

Ricardo's plan is to stage a quarrel between them, ensuring that neither Pia nor anyone else at La Promesa discovers what truly happened.
