He has found himself in the middle of a painful love triangle. He still has feelings for María, but she is expecting a child with another man, footman Carlo.
The idea of leaving for missionary work is increasingly taking root in Samuel's mind. However, the decision does not stem solely from a religious calling, he also wants to escape the situation at La Promesa.
María and Carlo’s relationship changes everything
Samuel considers whether he should tell María the truth about his feelings. However, the situation is complicated by María’s pregnancy.
Things become even more difficult for Samuel when María and Carlo begin appearing as a couple. María is expecting Carlo’s child, and they intend to try to build a future together.
Samuel is forced to watch from the sidelines. He begins to realize that confessing his love might not change anything. On the contrary, it could make the situation even harder for everyone involved.
Samuel decides to stay silent
Samuel tells Pía about his desire to confess his feelings to María. However, Pía advises him against doing so.
Samuel ultimately reaches the same conclusion. He does not tell María that he loves her.
The decision is painful for Samuel, but he tries to accept that María belongs with Carlo now. At the same time, he gives María his blessing for her new relationship, even though it clearly hurts him.
Missionary work becomes an escape route
As María and Carlo publicly confirm their relationship, it becomes increasingly difficult for Samuel to remain at La Promesa.Petra pressures him to leave for missionary work as soon as possible. The idea is simple: if Samuel goes far away, it might be easier for him to forget María and move on with his life.
But it is not just about love. Samuel also has to decide what will happen to the shelter he founded. Leaving for missionary work would mean he could no longer look after it. The shelter is important to Samuel, he does not want to abandon the people he has tried to help.
Could someone else take responsibility for the shelter? Petra volunteers for the role, but the shelter is plagued by constant financial problems.
Will Samuel leave La Promesa?
Samuel wants to leave. He wants to break free from his feelings for María. He wants to do what he feels is right. He wants to try to forget María and accept her relationship with Carlo. For a while, it seems as though Samuel is about to leave La Promesa behind.
The letter
But then, Samuel receives a letter from the diocese. Instead of opening it himself, he hands it to Petra to read. The letter states that Samuel’s departure for missionary work has been postponed. So, Samuel doesn't leave. He stays at La Promesa.
Undying Love
After that, Samuel still tries to keep his distance from María. He has decided to accept the fact that María and Carlo are together. However, Samuel admits to María that it is not easy for him to see her with Carlo. María, in turn, reveals that her relationship with Carlo is not as happy as it might appear from the outside.
This information changes Samuel's situation. He had tried to convince himself that María had made her choice and that he simply had to accept it. For the first time, this gives him hope that the story between him and María might not be over after all.
However, Samuel does not want to pressure María. He knows she must make her own decisions. That is why he continues to keep his distance, even though his feelings for María are far from gone.
Then Carlo finds out about María’s past relationship with Samuel, which breeds further mistrust between the couple.
Eventually, María and Carlo break up, and María immediately turns to Samuel for comfort...
